Spa Virgins: Facts for first time Spa goers
Think of Day Spas as islands of healing and pampering, a place to escape daily stressors and rejuvenate body and mind. Each Spa offers its own menu of services, including massages, body treatments, facials, reflexology, pedicures, manicures, makeovers and more. At most Day Spas you can select services a la carte or purchase a Spa Day package. What should I expect? Day Spas are healthy, nurturing, and relaxing places; however many first time Spa-goers are apprehensive about booking any treatments that involve more than a nail polish application. First-time Spa-goers often feel stressed about going to a Spa simply because they do not know what to expect or what is expected of them. With a little bit of planning and forethought, first-time Spa-goers can ensure they have a divine first experience. The following tips will help you get the most out of the Spa experience that awaits you.
Be as modest as you like. This experience is all about you! Your comfort level is the Spa's top concern. That being said, here's what you can expect: Know that upon your arrival someone will be there to check you in, answer any of your questions, and (at most Spas) guide you to the locker room where you will be given a plush robe and slippers. Everything necessary for your treatment will be provided by the Spa. When you are taken to the changing rooms you will usually be invited to undress in private and slip into a soft Spa robe. If you are comfortable taking off your undergarments than feel free to do so. For a facial it is often recommended that you remove your bra as a facial often includes a neck or shoulder massage. For body treatments you may want to remove all undergarments although, again, this is entirely up to you. Upon entering the treatment room the therapist will probably ask you to lie on the treatment table. Depending on what treatment you are having, the therapist may or may not expect you to disrobe. Most often the therapist will leave the room while you disrobe and slip under warm sheets or towels. Occasionally, the therapist will stay in the room holding up a towel as a privacy screen while you disrobe and get on the table. If you don't wish to undress at all, choose treatments such as Thai Massage, Shiatsu and Reiki that can be given fully clothed. Drink up! Don't forget to drink plenty of water during this time since adequate hydration prepares you for detoxification, a natural result of massage and many other body treatments. Make sure you abstain or limit caffeine and alcohol intake as well.
Don't be surprised if you feel sleepy during and following your treatment. Enjoy dozing off and take advantage of the opportunity to recharge yourself. At the end of your treatment you should feel completely relaxed. Don't jump up straight away and rush around, give yourself time to absorb the benefits and take things slowly for a little while. Skin deep Your appearance does not matter. Spa environments are designed to help you relax. Forget about makeup and leave the jewelry at home. Sex appeal Therapists can be of either sex, so if you have gender preferences don't be afraid to speak up, no one will mind. Remember also, that if at any time during your treatment you feel uncomfortable about any aspect of it, don't suffer in silence, tell the therapists. To gain the most from your treatment you need to feel comfortable and completely at ease with your situation and surroundings. If you are for example too hot, cold, the background music is not to your liking, or the pressure of your massage is too great let it be known! Be certain to disclose a current or old injury or physical condition to your therapist. Tipping What to tip the hand that soothes you? 10 percent to 20 percent is status quo. Most importantly tipping should reflect your level of satisfaction with services rendered. Beauty
